East L.A. Feral Feline Family

Hello, we are a family of kitties that live on the streets of East L.A. Like most street felines we are a little wary of humans, but we were gracious enough to pose for this family portrait for Sweet Slinky. As soon as she saw us she knew we would be perfect subjects for one of her cat squares. Life on the streets can be hard for us kitties. Please be kind to us. We contribute to our community in many ways. We keep the rodent population under control and we bring joy to those who take the time to notice us. You can learn more about the benefits of street cats here: Alley Cat Rescue

Here are a few other street cats that Sweet Slinky has encountered while walking in East Los Angeles:

The Cat Joy Project was conceived in late 2024 when I found myself feeling overwhelmed by a sense of doom and gloom. I needed to refocus my attention. And so the idea of creating quilted cat squares as a way to share my love of cats, walking, and Los Angeles was born. After spending the latter part of 2024 and the first month of 2025 teaching myself to sew, the project is now ready to be launched. The hand sewn quilted squares will be released on my walking routes for someone to find. Each square represents a cat that I have encountered either on one of my walks or at some other point in my life. Every cat has a story. You can read their stories here. If you find a cat square, you may keep it or relocate it to be found again. I hope this small gesture will bring some joy and happiness to those who find the cats and those who follow their stories.
