El Segundo

Welcome to El Segundo sign with individual signs of the logos of various local organizations.
The 50 year old welcome sign has been removed. A new one is slated to take its place.

Despite being surrounded by an oil refinery, a sewage treatment plant, LAX, and the 405 freeway El Segundo is worth a visit. You'll discover charming neighborhoods and a vibrant downtown with restaurants, breweries, eclectic shops, and one of my favorite places on earth - The Old Town Music Hall home of the Mighty Wurlitzer theater pipe organ. There is also a small park with an excellent view of the airport that is popular with plane spotters. You could easily spend a day here walking, watching planes, eating, and taking in a classic movie.

Before you go - The 4.5 mile route is easy with only a few uphill inclines.

There is plenty of street parking near the start.

There are public restrooms at the park where the walk starts and in the library around the 2 mile point.

If you're walking in the morning Smoky Hollow Roasters and The Bread Bar are good places to grab a coffee and a pastry.

I have seen the occasional cat here, but considering the small town feel of the place I would think there would be more of them. Maybe I was just unlucky.

Old Town Music Hall theater in El Segundo

Catch a vintage silent or sound movie or a live concert at The Old Town Music Hall. It's one of my top ten places in L.A. to take a friend from out of town.

A narrow alley with a mural of hand prints along the length of each side of the walls.

This may be the narrowest walkway in L.A. county.

An Alaska Airlines plane taking off from LAX

Right around the halfway point you'll be at Clutter's Park where you can rest and watch the planes taking off and landing at LAX.

An orange and white cat looking at the camera from behind a bush.

As always, keep an eye out for kitties.
